Thank you for your interest and visit to our website. SPADE is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), faith-based Christian Retreat, Conference, & Outreach Center. We are located in beautiful, rural Steinsville, PA (about 20 miles west of Allentown). This wonderful, peaceful, 7+ acre facility includes a unique 36 room Inn built in 1832. We call this the Inn of Hope – a place dedicated to make Christ known as our only Hope for time and eternity.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13

What We Do

We provide low cost facilities for Internationals, students, missionaries, pastors, Christian workers, church groups, individuals, and families to hold retreats, conferences, training seminars, debriefs, counseling, discipleship, and Bible studies.

The peaceful environment at SPADE allows groups to focus on the spiritual things by eliminating outside distractions. This is a perfect place for experiencing God; walking on our meditation path through our gardens and livestock area, towards Blue Mountain behind the property; or just taking time to rest, relax, refresh, and enjoy the beauty and majesty of God’s creation.

The Inn of Hope has a fully equipped kitchen for each group to bring their own food and do their own cooking. On the first floor is a large living room, dining room, small meeting room, and game room, as well as two powder rooms. The office, laundry room, & director’s residence are also on the first floor.

The second floor has a dormitory that sleeps nine, plus eight other bedrooms with queen, double, or twin beds. There are three shared bathrooms.

The third floor has a lovely library and nine bedrooms with a variety of bed sizes and two shared bathrooms.

All beds are made with clean linens and pillows for your convenience. Please bring your own towels and personal items.

Also on the property is a large metal building, part of which houses the chapel that seats approximately 100 people and has full audio capabilities. Behind the chapel is a campfire circle, volleyball net, and a prayer hut.

Wifi is available in both the inn and the chapel.

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
 my hope comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
 He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
 He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in Him, O people;
 Pour out your hearts to Him,
 For God is our refuge.”

About Us

The SPADE (Serving People through Appropriate Development Evangel) ministry began in 1987. Our mission statement is to proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ with special emphasis on advancement of appropriate development equipping people of all nations for service. Our purpose as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) faith-based ministry is religious, educational, and charitable.

We reach out to our community and extended areas with invitations to attend Bible studies, prayer times, and other special faith-based programs. We also reach out to the international community on a friendship and cross-cultural basis.

No one is refused accommodations because of an inability to donate.

Our sources of income are donations from those using the facilities, as well as contributions from interested persons, groups, or churches; private grants are also used to improve the facilities. The on-site directors are self-supporting and their income is processed through SPADE. We depend extensively on volunteer help for the maintenance of the property, cleaning, and improvements. We continually look to the Lord to graciously provide all we need.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be divinely inspired, and the authoritative Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

We believe in one God, creator and sustainer of the universe, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, redemptive death, bodily resurrection, present exaltation at God’s right hand, and the “blessed hope” of His personal return.

We believe that all men have sinned and therefore are guilty before God and are under His condemnation.

We believe that through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, God in love provided atonement for sin, so that, through repentance and saving faith in Christ, man is delivered from the judgment of God and is granted life eternal.

We believe in the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, who works through the Scriptures to bring people to salvation through Christ. He dwells in believers, equipping and empowering them for lives of holiness and fruitful service.

We believe that the church is comprised of all true believers and that the mission of the church, with Christ as its head, is to communicate the Gospel of Christ to all the world.

We believe in the resurrection of the body, the everlasting judgment of unbelievers, and the everlasting blessedness of believers in the presence of Christ.
